چکیده

Limiting global temperature increases to 1.5 °C while respecting ‘the right health’ requires substantial reductions in Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs), including methane, black carbon and hydrofluorocarbons, co-emitted air pollutants. This study evaluates the inclusion of SLCP pollutant mitigation within Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) that were submitted between 2015 2022. Between pre- post-2020 NDCs, explicit reference SLCPs as priorities more than doubled, indicating a rise policy attention these There was also large increase percentage countries methane HFCs scope their overall GHG reduction targets, three include targets. With respect policy, there 45% number specific measures included NDCs post-2020. Hence, with implicit other pollutants covered is now substantially larger compared pre-2020, due greater reduce alongside (other) GHGs.Key insights Local benefits for human health from pollution improvements key priority earlier NDC reporting. Many can simultaneously GHGs, helping achieve local quality improvements. To demonstrate achievement reductions, focusing on implementation should ensure are integrated into climate change monitoring frameworks.Post-2020 provide many clear examples how both ambition development benefits, which could be adopted countries.

Mitigation of short-lived climate pollutants slows sea-level rise

Under present growth rates of greenhouse gas and black carbon aerosol emissions, global mean temperatures can warm by as much as 2 C from pre-industrial temperatures by about 20501,2. Mitigation of the four short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), methane, tropospheric ozone, hydrofluorocarbons and black carbon, has been shown to reduce the warming trend by about 50% (refs 1,2) by 2050. Here we ...

Status and prediction of ozone as an air pollutant in Ahvaz City, Iran

In the present study, air quality analyses for ozone (O3) were conducted in Ahvaz, a city in the south of Iran. The measurements were taken from 2009 through 2010 in two different locations to prepare average data in the city. Relations between the air pollutant and some meteorological parameters were calculated statistically using the daily average data. The wind data (velocity, direction), re...

Near-term climate mitigation by short-lived forcers.

Emissions reductions focused on anthropogenic climate-forcing agents with relatively short atmospheric lifetimes, such as methane (CH4) and black carbon, have been suggested as a strategy to reduce the rate of climate change over the next several decades. We find that reductions of methane and black carbon would likely have only a modest impact on near-term global climate warming. Even with max...

Status of CO as an air pollutant and its prediction, using meteorological parameters in Esfahan, Iran

The present study analyzes air quality for Carbon monoxide (CO), in Esfahan with the measurements taken in three different locations to prepare average data in the city. The average concentrations have been measured every 24 hours, every month and every season with the results showing that the highest concentration of CO occurs generally in the morning and at the beginning of night, while the l...
